Immunisation coverage

Measures the percentage of children that were immunised in three age cohorts per quarter for the rolling year. Rates are based on data sourced from the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR).

Fully vaccinated at 1 year

Children are assessed as fully immunised at one year of age if they have received:

  • the third dose of diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, polio, hepatitis B and pneumococcal vaccine; and
  • the second or third dose of Haemophilus influenzae type B vaccine (age and schedule appropriate).
Fully vaccinated at 2 years

From the first quarter 2017, the definition of fully immunised at 2 years changed. Prior to 2017, the definition of fully immunised included the third dose of diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis vaccine.

Children are assessed as fully immunised at two years of age if they have received:

  • the fourth dose of diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis vaccine;
  • the third dose of polio and hepatitis B vaccine;
  • the third or fourth dose of Haemophilus influenzae type B vaccine (age and schedule appropriate);
  • the second dose of measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) vaccine;
  • one dose of meningococcal C vaccine; and
  • one dose of varicella vaccine.
Fully vaccinated at 5 years

Children are assessed as fully immunised at five years of age if they have received:

  • the fourth dose of diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis vaccine;
  • the fourth dose of polio vaccine; and
  • the second dose of measles, mumps, rubella vaccine.
All Children

Children who are enrolled with Medicare, regardless of Indigenous status.

Non-Indigenous Children

Children who at the time of Medicare enrolment, are not identified by their parent or guardian as being of Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander or both Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander origin; this includes children whose parent or guardian did not answer the questions relating to Indigenous status.

Indigenous Children

Indigenous identification is optional when making an application for Medicare enrolment.

Children who at the time of Medicare enrolment, are identified by their parent or guardian as being of Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander or both Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander origin.

State Rate - All Children

The total number of Queensland children fully immunised, divided by the total number of Queensland children enrolled with Medicare, in each specific age cohort.
