The Gold Coast University Hospital (GCUH) opened on 28 September 2013 and is one of Queensland's largest clinical teaching and research facilities. As a tertiary level health facility the new GCUH offers the local community more beds and a wider range of public health services than ever before. The services include 866 funded hospital beds, including 77 mental health beds, 73 emergency department bays, 36 paediatric beds and 27 maternity beds.
